If you’re interested in internships, jobs after graduation, or grad school, please take the time to first view the presentation linked below. It covers a lot of the general background that we would discuss in a first meeting. In particular, before we meet for the first time, you should:
Have a current version of your resume. You can work with the Career Development Center in the CTL on this; I’m happy to help you revise it (and almost certainly will). Starting with the CTL is a good idea, however.
Have a list of potential internships/jobs/etc. It is possible you have a goal that is hard to find opportunities for. I expect you to have multiple possible targets for your applications; putting all of your eggs in one basket is not a good strategy.
Have the materials organized. Ideally, you would have a Google Drive folder that contained a document with links to materials, your CV (in Word and/or PDF form), and any other resources that are going to be useful while we’re working on your applications. You’d share that with me directly (jadudm at gmail.com) so that I don’t have to chase you for copies of what you’re submitting. This also makes it much easier to provide comments on cover letters and other documents as we’re collaborating.
Those are a few thoughts, anyway. In a nutshell: start early, communicate clearly, and be organized. If these represent new skills that you need to develop, I’ll help you.
